Berks Talk > Hollywood Casino promises good-paying jobs
How about in Wyomissing?
This was in the Harrisburg paper: Hollywood Casino general manager Frank Quigley said he expects to hire 300 to 400 workers to staff what he described as a small table-games operation.
He’s looking to hire all the dealers locally; some might come from the ranks of workers now holding other jobs at the casino. But he said table games supervisory jobs might have to be filled early by people now working in places such as Atlantic City.
Casino operators are eager to add table games because they typically draw younger and more affluent customers. State lawmakers have agreed to allow table games in the state’s slots parlors But they’re working to resolve details, including the tax rate on those games.
Quigley said it will be six to nine months before the first blackjack hand is dealt at Hollywood Casino, but plans are in the works to hire staff and expand the facility.
"This is 400 good-paying jobs," he said. "A young person can come out of six weeks or eight weeks of school and start at what could be a $40,000-a-year job."
