Why doesn't Reading just dump all its sewage into the Schuylkill from now on
Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 11:45AM Reading is diverting raw sewage into the Schuylkill River again as crews begin repairs on what has turned out to be two new leaks, not just one, in the city's rain-swollen sewer main.
The first leak was discovered Friday, and the second one early this week, but the river was too high to fix either.
Because the 42-inch main has no backup pipe - one is being designed - the city has to divert up to 12 million gallons of raw sewage a day into the river so the main can be shut down to repair the leaks. That diversion began Tuesday evening.
The city has no money. The current sewage plnt is stinky. Maybe the city can enact a poop tax!
