Election to fill O'Pake's seat will be "full-blown"

That's how the morning newspaper described the situation today, quoting county elections chief Deborah Olivieri. O'Pake's district covers 128 precincts out of 198, and voting machines must be sequestered for 30 days after the March 15 special election in case there needs to be a recount or things otherwise get mucked up. That doesn't leave much time to rejigger the machines for the May 17 primary.
Worse, "A lot of our poll workers go south for the winter," Olivieri said. She clearly would like the special election to take place in, oh, about ten minutes.
The fight to become the new O'Pake already is drawing a lively field of hopefuls. Register of Wills Larry Madaglia fell just short of passing out campaign flyers at O'Pake's funeral. He has the advantage of being able to doctor the senator's will to indicate that O'Pake bequeathed the seat to him.
Here's Larry talking about property taxes on the WFMZ website:
I can remember talking to Senator Opaque about this issue many, many moons ago. The reality is it's an issue we need to address here. We have government growth that's out of control and we need to find a way to stop it.
Senator Opaque? Dear God, Larry.
NRA darling/sheriff Barry Jozwiak could talk tough on guns (i.e. let every citizen have as many as they have storage for). Ex-Rep. Sam Rohrer, who sucked running for governor, needs a job and would be the darling of the teabagger wingtards.
As for the Democrats, former County Commissioner Judy Schwank, who said Sunday she is not running, now manned up to Channel 69 and said she is "seriously considering" taking the plunge. That's because she would trounce everyone else.
And you, too, can get on the ballot as a third-party spoiler. The Property Taxes Are Too Damn High Party needs a standard bearer.
