The Chamber of Commerce was evil, even back in 1971

As everyone in America should be aware, the Chamber of Commerce is a powerful terrorist organization. Foreignly funded, the group lobbied to kill a bill that would have provided health care to 9/11 first responders, refuses to disclose the identities of its lobbying donors, and hosts seminars that teach companies how to outsource jobs.
That's so Americans can enjoy the freedom to purchase bags emblazoned "Made in USA" that actually were sewn in sweatshops in China.
An editorial in today's morning newspaper suggests that these pricks were just as perfidious three decades ago. The editorial praises Reading Area Community College's academic accomplishments and says it has proved it is worthy of sponsorship by the county, but notes that the project almost got stopped dead in its tracks:
When the Reading School Board voted 7-2 to establish the school in 1971, it met with strong objections from such organizations as the Berks County Chamber of Commerce and the Manufacturers Association of Berks County - two groups that since have merged to form the Greater Reading Chamber of Business & Industry - for fear it would increase labor costs.
Increase labor costs?
What, because laborers would be more educated and won't have to accept slave-labor wages?
It is one of the few times the morning newspaper got an editorial right since 1971. Stopped clock?
