Reading's homeless sure to grow because officials are clueless on how to process zoning permits
Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 08:21AM Here's another screwup by our city fathers, this time a snafu that could force more than 5,000 families out onto the street.
It seems the people being paid good money to do these things never got around to processing 1,419 pending zoning applications daing back two or things. More than 700 of those applications, city business analyst David Kersley found out are incomplete.
Oh, what to do!
Councilman Francis G. Acosta said the city should start afresh, offering the keen insight "We already look like we don't know what we're doing." Other council members said the city deny all applications, placard the properties and force each owner to apply anew, under new rules and in a more streamlined process.
Then there's the legal matter of whether state law requires zoning applications to be approved if they are not answered within 30 days.
Summer may be almost over, but city council still has its head in the sand

Every day so far there has been trouble after the zoo lets out. The savages march down Walnut St. IN THE STREET. They cause traffic backups, get ugly with anyone who says a word, damage property. Today I'm told the Police were called out again. Had the dog out too. This is what we get after years of out of control liberal entitlement programs. A worthless uncivilized population which we can't do anything about because the same leftie assholes that created this mess now defend it with the race card and legal actions. And always to defend the scumbags at the expense of decent citizens. Mayor Barletta had balls. What did we get here in Reading. Mayor ( we love hearing Spanish in Reading ) Marshmallow. Add to that, gang warfare, rampant illegitimacy, total dysfunction, shootings, stabbings, home invasions, etc. etc. At least Mayor Barletta tried to do something to save Hazelton from the same fate Reading has suffered. Leroy Junebug Mustafa: Well I'm one of those 'liberal cocksuckers' as you so classily put it and I can assure you that I don't support the entitlement mentality that exists among many of Reading's residents. Of course, I also happen to be smart enough to know that you can't throw people off of welfare in a community that has no jobs. Where are these people supposed to work, with all of the good manufacturing jobs that have been outsourced to China and India the past decade or two? Let's start making it harder for American companies to shed American workers in favor of Chinese ones and then we can talk about welfare reform.
At this point, I think it's fair to question whether the City government can do anything properly. Maybe there's a list of all the screwups and inefficiencies found over the past few years...would make interesting reading.
