Suckers losing more in slot machines, taxpayers getting less in tax relief

Go figure. The state collected $613.1 million in slot revenue during the past fiscal year, a staggering increase from $612.8 million in 2008, yet the amount of tax relief Berks property owners will receive has inched down. That's because too many greedy homeowners have signed up for the rebate program after missing out last year. Once the gambling haul reaches $1 billion, families can expect a whopping discount of $1.50 while the rolls of Gamblers Anonymous  soar skyward.
